The construction of this monument took 132 years, receiving its final consecration in 1669. Today, this superb temple built in over an acre (4000 m2) and considered the symbol of the city, holds inside 11 chapels, 1 vestry, 1 "capitular" hall, 7 altarpieces, 1 lower chorus completely carved in cider wood from Cusco, more than 300 paintings, and a variety of carvings and sculptures as well.

The highlight of this group are the Main Altar, covered in its entirety with layers of silver, and the Silver Chariot mounted on a template that is still being used to be taken out in a procession during the religious festivity of Corpus Christi.

The architectonic plant is rectangular with crossings that provide access to the temples of the Sacred Family and of the Triumph, seeming the plant like a Latin cross. It has 5 naves, 28 pillars and 56 arcs.

La visita a la Catedral también incluye conocer el Templo del Triunfo y de La Sagrada Familia.
